Our herd of Red Forest Deer moved onto the farm in 2006, as an addition to the 100 acres of woodland we have planted. As part of the management of the herd, we started to sell Venison in our farm shop, to help control the health of the herd. Venison rapidly became a popular and in-demand meat due to its low fat percentage, as well as being one the most nutritionally beneficial red meats on the market. Unlike most red meats, Venison does not shrink away when cooked, and holds its texture and flavour even when slow cooked. Just like Bison, Venison is very dense and full of vitamins and minerals, so you don’t need a lot to get the nutrients you need!
